There is a story told of Ira D. Sankey who was the music man for D. L. Moody and wrote many beautiful songs including the classic “The Ninety and Nine.”
In 1876 he was traveling and when the passengers realized he was on board, he was asked to sing a song. He wanted to sing a Christmas song, but was led to sing something different. You can read the whole story here. You can also get a Kindle Edition of the life and the story of gospel hymns by Ira D. Sankey. I just purchased mine and I am looking forward to reading it. My Life And The Story Of The Gospel Hymns And Of Sacred Songs And Solos (aff. link) Based on a series of books by Paul Hutchens, The Sugar Creek Gang movies chronicle the adventures of Bill Collins, Poetry, Circus, Dragonfly, Big Jim, Little Jim, and the rest of the residents of Sugar Creek. The DVD series consists of stories taken from the pages of the book series as well as all-new original adventures! The five part series consists of Swamp Robber, The Great Canoe Fish, Race Against Nightfall, Secret Hideout, and Teacher Trouble. By the way, I purchased this for my grandkids and they love it! They watch them over and over.
As you look at the beautiful lights on all the Christmas trees you may see this year, please remember that your blessings will always out number the lights that you see. Psalms 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. The Door- Jesus is the door, the only door to heaven. There is no other way. Have you opened your heart's door and let Him in so that you can be assured of entering heaven through the only door Jesus Christ? He will not force His way in, but He is glad to come in if you will welcome Him.
I have taken the last 30 days of Thankfulness and made it into a slide show. It is a good reminder to me of what a good, gracious, loving, Savior I have. He can be yours too! Don't ever let Thanksgiving and praise in your heart to the Lord end just because the Thanksgiving holiday is over. Music Credit: "I Will Praise Him"
Words & Music: Margaret J. Harris, 1898 from an album by Kenon Renfrow; Psalms 30:4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness - "Be ye holy," saith the Lord, "for I am holy." He who can give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness, is one who loves holiness; who hates sin; who longs to be saved from it; and takes encouragement at the recollection of God's holiness, as he sees in this the holy nature which he is to share, and the perfection which he is here to attain. One can never be holy as the Lord is holy until he first knows The Holy One, Jesus Christ, who has provided Salvation for us.
What a blessing to know that there is only one way to heaven! If there were many different ways, what confusion there would be. Yet so many are confused because they refuse to believe that there is only one way. Jesus is the Way - without Him there is no going to heaven, Jesus is the Truth - without the truth of God's Word we could have no knowledge of how to get to heaven, Jesus is the life - with the life that Jesus offers through His shed blood on the cross there is no living. We would have no hope; we would be lost in our sins. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. The Pilgrims gave thanks no matter what their circumstances. We can certainly learn a lot of lessons from them. I got the original lesson for this from HERE. You can download a power point lesson there, but I thought it would be nice to have an audio form of the story. Have you taught your children and grandchildren about the pilgrims and all the hardships they faced. We enjoyed sharing this with our grandchildren this past Thanksgiving Week. How blessed we are to feast off the benefits of the pilgrims coming to the New World so that we could worship the Lord freely. May we never take it for granted for that day may quickly come to an end. You can find the best reason to give thanks HERE. I think the pilgrims truly practiced this verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 It struck me how blessed I am to have been taught THE TRUTH from the time I was born. Many people do not have that privilege. I must never take it for granted. As I scroll through facebook, I am often grieved by the posts of friends, many of whom name the name of Christ, yet their lifestyle is so worldly or the things they think are OK are totally against the Word of God. It is obvious that the truths of God's Word have not been instilled in them. It is not that I think I am better than anyone, just grateful, that I was taught the Bible from a very young age. But those truths are still there for anyone and anyone who desires can know the truths of God and begin now to instill them into their hearts and minds. I am convinced that if we do not instill truth into the hearts of our children and grandchildren from the time they are born, it is most likely they will not wholly follow the Lord.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. |
